The Birth of Jikopa Fintech

2 min read

Hey fellow dreamer

The five days of internet Shutdown in Uganda last January slowed everything down for me. No messages. No notifications. Just silence.
During those quiet moments, I reread The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel, a book I deeply admire. As a non verbal person with no physical circles of friends, the internet is my main space for connection. Without it, I had time to reflect on my life, my relationship with money, and how many young people like me are simply trying to survive financially.

That silence gave birth to an idea called "Jikopa"

A few weeks later, an article on Pulse Uganda by Joshua Kato referenced a Uganda Youth Development Link survey showing that 7 in 10 youth aged 18 to 30 had taken at least one digital loan in the past year, with many borrowing more than they could comfortably repay. This is not a problem of intelligence. It is a behavioral trap.

As Morgan Housel reminds us, success with money is about behavior, not intelligence.

Jikopa turns this insight into action by building financial discipline into a simple, practical system. It helps young people save first and borrow from themselves, instead of falling into high interest digital loans.

The MVP of Jikopa is already live at jikopa.org
