One of the most painful and often ignored barriers faced by persons with disabilities, especially the deaf, hard of hearing, and non-verbal individuals, is communication.
In a world where speech is often used to validate competence, build trust, and close opportunities, many are unfairly excluded from earning, networking, and fully participating.
That is why I’m excited to partner with @Alex Ogwal from Sound of Silence Africa Initiative to bring his vision to life through DeafAccess
This platform is designed to break communication barriers and create real access through:
- Booking sign language interpreters for in-person or virtual sessions
- Built-in video calls with interpreters
- Real-time chat messaging
- A community space for interaction and shared experiences
- Push notifications for bookings and updates
- Smart profile matching based on region
- Integration with platforms like Zoom, Google Meet, WhatsApp, and Microsoft Teams
- Secure login and data protection
We are also exploring sub-regional studios that will act as call centers to ensure reliable and consistent service delivery.
The web version is already live: https://deafaccessug.org/ and Android Version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.deafaccess.app
An iOS app is coming soon.
We are now opening this up for testing, growth, and community feedback.
If you believe in inclusion that goes beyond conversation and into real access, we would love to hear from you.
